Experience Dental - Wisdom Teeth Removal FAQ
Experience Dental - Wisdom teeth removal: Potential complications?

Wisdom teeth are the third and final set of permanent adult teeth, usually appearing in the late teens to mid-twenties. They can emerge earlier, later, or even be absent. While some wisdom teeth may come in without issues, there are several reasons for removal.

When should wisdom teeth be removed?

  • Crooked Growth or Impaction: Misaligned wisdom teeth or those trapped against adjacent teeth may need removal to avoid further dental issues.
  • Space Constraints and Crowding: Limited jaw space can cause painful overcrowding, impacting nearby teeth and oral hygiene.
  • Food Trapping and Decay Risk: Poorly positioned wisdom teeth can trap food, increasing the risk of decay and gum disease.
  • Increased Infection Susceptibility: Impacted wisdom teeth are more prone to infection, making extraction a preventative measure for long-term oral health.

What to Expect When Getting a Wisdom Tooth Extracted

Wisdom tooth extraction can range from a simple procedure to a more complex surgery, depending on your specific situation. Your dentist will assess your case to determine the best approach, whether it’s a straightforward in-office procedure or requires an oral surgeon’s expertise. This typically includes an examination and X-rays to evaluate the positioning of your wisdom teeth and jawbone.

Examining Your Teeth

Before scheduling your extraction, a thorough examination will assess your dental health and the condition of your wisdom teeth. X-rays help determine the alignment and root structure, guiding the best course of action for removal and ensuring a well-informed treatment plan.

The Removal Process

During your consultation, we’ll explain the extraction procedure and preparation steps. Depending on your preferences and the dentist’s recommendation, local anesthesia or sedation will be used to ensure you’re comfortable. We use minimally invasive techniques to gently remove the teeth, focusing on your comfort and a quick recovery.

Aftercare

You may want a companion to drive you home and assist during your recovery. We’ll provide detailed aftercare instructions to manage discomfort and encourage healing. Our team is available to address any concerns or questions during your recovery, ensuring you feel supported every step of the way.

Cost Of Wisdom Tooth Removal in Boulder

The cost of wisdom tooth removal can vary widely based on factors like insurance coverage and the complexity of the extraction. With insurance, a straightforward extraction typically ranges from $100 to $200+ per tooth out-of-pocket. Without insurance, the cost can rise to approximately $200 to $600+ per tooth.

It’s important to note that providing an accurate quote for wisdom tooth removal requires an in-person examination. However, understanding the two main types of extractions can help you estimate potential costs:

Simple Tooth Extraction: This procedure is for fully erupted wisdom teeth without complications. Performed by a general dentist using local anesthesia, these extractions are generally more affordable.

Surgical Tooth Extraction: For impacted or misaligned wisdom teeth, surgical extraction is necessary. These more complex cases require specialized expertise and tend to be more expensive.

At our practice, we strive to make care accessible by accepting insurance, offering flexible payment plans, and providing various treatment options. Don’t let financial concerns prevent you from getting the care you need—we’re here to support your oral health goals.

I have only visited two dental offices in the US but this is the best so far. Dr. Altdorfer is very professional, explain each step to me very clearly and finished the procedure swiftly. Today I was there shaping a tooth for a crown. The entire session is painless and as smooth as it can be. Attiya is also very nice. She explained things in detail (about what to be mindful of..etc) before I asked, including things that I needed asking in my previous dentist. I am that kind of people who worries a bit so I still have a question or two. I am glad that they are very patient to answer them. My prior cleaning session with Missy was also great. She did the cleaning very gently and carefully, which I appreciate. Also very nice, calm and clear in communication. 10/10. I think they had a substitute hygienist for a day, name is Bruce as I recall, he also went above and beyond. After he inspected my gum, he gave me a lot of advice and recommendations on how to take better care of my mouth. And he did it in a thoughtful manner. That's where I feel like he genuinely care about his patient. Great place in general. Update: Just went back today to finish my treatment. Same good practice. I have a crown fitting/sitting and 3 fillings, all done in one hour and with no pain. Dr. Altdorfer and Attiya are superb. They told me what they are doing and I should do in each step. Good communication too. What a stark contrast with my previous place (outside of colorado)!

Honestly one of the best experiences I have had at the dentist. The staff is so genuinely nice and helpful. I have a huge fear of needles and the doctor was so patient and kind. Made the injections as painless and comfortable as possible. Both appointments I’ve made I have been contacted by the office to see if I wanted to come in at an earlier date and when I’m there I’m taken to the back very fast. I have already recommended so many friends to this office and if you’re looking for a dentist I HIGHLY recommend going here. 6/5 stars. Thank you to the staff at experience dental!!!
