Experience Dentistry Free From Stress and Anxiety
Experience Dental - Sedation Dentistry FAQs
Experience Dental - What is sedation dentistry?
Pain and discomfort during dental procedures can be effectively managed with various anesthetic and sedation options. Depending on your treatment plan, individual needs, and your dentist’s expertise, different methods or a combination of techniques may be used to ensure you’re fully at ease.
At our office, we do not offer in-office sedation such as nitrous oxide or IV sedation. However, for patients who experience dental anxiety, we can provide a prescription for an oral medication to be taken prior to your appointment to help you feel more relaxed and comfortable during treatment. These prescriptions are sent directly to your pharmacy and taken before you arrive for your visit. For your safety, patients using this option must arrange for a driver to and from their appointment.
We can also pair this approach with our XR video glasses during treatment to further support a calm and comfortable experience.
Types of Sedation
Sedation methods are generally grouped into different categories. The ones that we offer include numbing a specific area, and/or staying awake but deeply relaxed during your procedure. Here’s a closer look at each option:
Local Freezing
This widely used method begins with numbing the area, followed by a local anesthetic injection to temporarily “put to sleep” a specific part of your mouth. While you may sense pressure, you won’t experience any pain.
Sedation
With options like prescription medications, you remain fully awake but in a deeply relaxed state. Sedation is often paired with local freezing to provide additional comfort.
The Benefits of Dental Sedation
Dental sedation and sleep dentistry offer valuable options to assist patients with various needs and challenges. Here are some of the key benefits of sedation dentistry:
Overcoming Dental Anxiety
Fear or worry about dental treatments can sometimes feel more daunting than the procedure itself. Anxiety shouldn’t stop you from getting the care you need. Whether your concerns are mild or severe, let us know. We can make your experience much more comfortable.
Make Time Fly By
For lengthy procedures that require extended time with your mouth open, sedation helps you remain calm and comfortable. The treatment will seem to pass quickly.
Tailored for Your Personal Needs
If you struggle with a sensitive gag reflex, restlessness, or find that local anesthetics don’t work effectively, sedation provides a solution. It’s a versatile option designed to meet a variety of individual needs, making dental care accessible to all.
